Nosiheptide

also known as: RP 9671, RP-9671

A thiopeptide antibiotic used in food animals, with potent laboratory activity against drug-resistant tuberculosis. Never approved for people.

Nosiheptide is a thiopeptide antibiotic, a heavily modified, sulfur-rich peptide. It is used in food animals, whose tissues are tested for its residues (2019 method study), and a 2022 study found it potently inhibited Mycobacterium tuberculosis, including multidrug-resistant clinical isolates, in the laboratory and inside infected cells. It has no approval for human use.

Mechanism of action

Its mechanism is not described in the papers read for this entry. Against 128 clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis, half were inhibited at 0.25 μg/mL and 90% at 1 μg/mL, and it also inhibited M. tuberculosis growing inside cells (2022 study).

Primary uses

  • Antibiotic use in food animals
  • Research: drug-resistant tuberculosis (laboratory)

Typical dosing

Not established for human use

No human dose: it has not been studied in people in any paper read.

Educational information, not medical advice. The doses on this page come from approved labels, published studies and, where no study exists, amounts reported by users. None is a recommendation for you. An unapproved compound has no established safe or effective human dose, and products sold for “research use only” are not made or tested for people. Regulatory status

Not approved for human use: Drugs@FDA and the EMA medicines list hold no record for it (searched October 28, 2026). It is used in food animals, whose tissues are monitored for its residues (2019 method study). ChEMBL records a maximum clinical phase of 2.

Status as of this entry's last review, October 28, 2026. Approvals, compounding rules and sport rules change; the regulatory tracker is checked more often.

What we checked

Nosiheptide is an animal antibiotic with tuberculosis research behind it; this section records what can be checked.

FormulaC51H43N13O12S6 (PubChem CID 16130051)
Molecular weight1222.4 g/mol (PubChem)
Structurethiopeptide

Thiopeptides are built from modified amino acids that a residue calculator cannot represent, so the formula and weight are PubChem's.

Regulatory status, read October 28, 2026

Drugs@FDA: 0 records for “nosiheptide”. EMA medicines list: 0 records for “nosiheptide”. Run for semaglutide, the same queries return 6 and 5 records (and the registry search 85 trials), so a zero here is an absence, not a broken search. Not named on the WADA 2026 and 2027 Prohibited Lists. As a substance with no current approval for human therapeutic use, it falls under section S0 (non-approved substances), which is prohibited at all times; the lists were read on October 28, 2026.

What the studies show

Against 18 reference strains of slow-growing mycobacteria and 128 clinical M. tuberculosis isolates it had low MICs; one isolate carrying a Lys89Thr mutation had an MIC above 8 μg/mL (Yu et al., 2022).

A 2019 method measures low residue levels in swine, chicken and fish muscle, for monitoring medicated animals (Song et al., 2019).

What we looked for and did not find

No human study, no registry record and no human drug approval.
