Peptides on the WADA Prohibited List, 2026 and 2027

Where each of the 299 compounds in our encyclopedia stands under the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List: named, caught by the S0 catch-all, unsettled, or not on the List. Under the 2027 List, which takes effect on January 1, 2027: 73 named on the List, 1 prohibited in competition only, 114 caught by S0 without being named, 50 unsettled, 61 not on the List.

Lists read September 27, 2026 · Rendered from our dataset on 2026-10-01 · By the Grey Peptides Editorial Board

Which List applies

The 2026 List has been in force since January 1, 2026, and is the one that applies today. WADA approved the 2027 List on September 10, 2026, published it on September 21, and it takes effect on January 1, 2027. What matters for an athlete is the List in force on the date of the sample, which is why this page shows both.

Four ways a peptide can stand

Named. A section of the List names the substance or a class that includes it. Most peptides that are named appear under S2, the section for peptide hormones, growth factors and related substances, and are prohibited at all times.

Caught by S0. S0 prohibits any pharmacological substance that no other section addresses and that has no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use. The List's own examples include drugs under pre-clinical or clinical development or discontinued, and substances approved only for veterinary use. S0's text now lists “peptides” among its examples of non-approved substances. This is why most research peptides are prohibited although almost none is named: S0 reaches them because nobody has approved them.

Unsettled. Not named, and S0's test turns on a fact we have not settled: an approval somewhere outside the US that we have not verified, or an approval for diagnostic rather than therapeutic use. We say so rather than guess, and each row gives the reason.

Not on the List. Neither named nor caught by S0. Usually that is because the compound is approved somewhere for human therapeutic use and no section names it.

Specified or not

The List designates every prohibited substance as Specified except those in the sections it names as exceptions, and the distinction affects how a case is sanctioned under the World Anti-Doping Code. The List is explicit that a Specified substance should not in any way be considered less important or less dangerous than any other. The table gives the designation for every prohibited compound.

What changed for 2027

S0's text now lists “peptides” among its examples of non-approved substances. Compound by compound, against our records:

  • Dermorphin: “Not on the 2026 List” became “Unsettled (S0 may apply)” for 2027. WADA monitored dermorphin as a non-prohibited substance in 2026 and dropped it from the 2027 Monitoring Program without adding it to the List; on its face S0 would cover it.

Named on the List (73)

The List names the substance, or a class that plainly includes it, in a section. Where it is named, the List's own words are quoted.

Monitored, not prohibited

WADA's Monitoring Program tracks substances that are not prohibited, to detect patterns of misuse. For 2027 it includes 9 compounds in our encyclopedia: Buserelin, Gonadorelin, Goserelin, Histrelin, Leuprolide, Nafarelin, Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, Triptorelin. Being monitored is not being prohibited, but it is WADA saying it is watching.

What an athlete should check

  • The List in force on the day. A compound can change status between Lists, as dermorphin does for 2027.
  • Not named does not mean permitted. S0 catches unapproved substances whether or not anyone has named them, and the 2027 List adds peptides to its examples.
  • A prescription is not an exemption. Where a prohibited substance is medically needed, the route is a Therapeutic Use Exemption, which the List itself refers to.
  • A label bought outside the regulated supply is not evidence of what is inside. In one study, semaglutide bought online without a prescription contained 28.6% to 38.7% more than its label stated. Our semaglutide entry covers the findings.
  • This page is not a ruling. It reports what the List says and how we read it. An athlete's own anti-doping organisation gives the answer that counts.
